Month of the Rosary:
October is the month we dedicate to praying the Holy Rosary.
This is a tradition with origins going back to October 1571 when Pope Pius V asked the continent of Europe to pray the rosary so that Spain would be protected from Ottoman invasion.
When Spain prevailed, 7 October became the feast of Our Lady of Victory.
In the 19th century the feast also became known as Our Lady of the Rosary and the month of October was dedicated to the praying the rosary.
Everyone is encouraged to take part in this devotion as a means of drawing closer to Jesus through Mary.
